The rules governing the creation of GND data sets
The authority data records for people, families, corporations, conferences and regional authorities as well as works are recorded in accordance with the “Resource Description and Access” (RDA) framework. In the German-speaking region, the framework is complemented by the RDA DACH standard (in German).
The cataloguing standard is available online. The RDA DACH is an integrated, browser-based web application.
Authority data records for specialist terms, certain collections and geographic entities such as buildings, large sculptures, paths, nature reserves, natural area units and various others are recorded in accordance with the "Rules on Subject Heading Cataloguing" (RSWK).
Explanations on how to record individual entities in the GND based on the above-mentioned frameworks can be found in the GND entry guide (in German). For general advice and information on new GDN data records that go beyond the requirements of libraries, you can contact us via the contact form.
