The GND.network as an organization

The informal and formal organization that manages the GND has the characteristic of a network of institutions with complementary areas of expertise. This fundamental characteristic is being further expanded with the aim of enhancing participation on the GND. The GND.network comprises everyone actively collaborating on the GND. It is only through the cooperative, mutually complementary collaboration between a wide variety of institutions in the cultural and academic sector that the GND can function as the communal anchor for the institutions’ respective data networks. The services and coordination processes are designed in such a way as to allow as many institutions working in all disciplines to participate in the GND with relatively little effort. To this end, standardized solutions for the various application contexts are being incrementally established.
