The GND (Integrated Authority File) is the largest collection of cultural and research authority data in the German-speaking countries. Originally used as a work tool in libraries its importance as a central network hub is growing as the process of digital transformation progresses. The GND is formed cooperatively. People from a variety of institutions and committees continually work together to improve it and keep it up to date. They ensure that the GND is connected with international standards and embedded in comprehensive data ecosystems. They vouch for the reliability of their content. In the German acronym GND the G "gemeinsam" refrains thus both to the integrated character of the records and to the collaborative character of it governance structure.
